Life Lessons for Women’s Empowerment

I kick off my professional career as a financial auditor in PwC right after I graduated from university, specializing in financial service industry clients. There, I learned a lot, both the hard skills and soft skills required as the foundation to navigate myself in a professional world. I really am grateful for all the experience, mentorship, and great friends (which some until now still feel like family) I acquired during my time there.

Honestly, back then I was just trying to create a better life for myself and to have the ability to provide a better quality of life for my future child. A bit of a shallow reason actually, kind of just want to be able to take revenge to do things I cannot do when I was little/younger and was not financially independent.

At the beginning of my professional career, my end goal was just to be an independent and respectable woman at the top of the organization (can be a management in a company or a partner in a firm). The challenges surely await me ahead, I faced many challenges toward my end goal, and one phrase that I learned during the few hardest years in my life, as I quote from one of my favorite bohemian poets, was

“After all we are made of earth and even she goes through seasons.”

- Christopher Pointdexter

And I still hold this one dearly in my heart and mind. This reminds me that everything has its own time. For the good things, it won’t last forever, so enjoy it while it last. And for the bad things, these too shall pass, so bear with it while trying to learn from it. And along the journey, I have implemented (consciously and unconsciously) a couple of mindsets to help me get to where I am now.

Know what you want to be in your life

Be unapologetically fearless to chase your dreams

yet always have compassion toward others.

Surround yourself with the right people

who love you truly but are unafraid to challenge even slap you in the back when needed, and when doing things.

Put yourself in other’s shoes

this will help to see things from different angles. After all, we don’t want to solve our problem by creating another problem for other people.

And The next?

Honestly, I haven’t thought of what’s next. Just focusing on trying to do the best I can in where I am now — which is the Company’s Head of Finance. To do things that contribute to continuously creating a better version of the ALTO Network.

And also, to be a person who is impactful and a channel of blessing for my surroundings, as I also have been greatly blessed by having a great team as well as family in ALTO Network and in my life as well.
