Mental Health In Our Daily Basis
1 in 5 people will experience a Mental Health problems during their lifetime.
Mental Health is a real problem that can affect our daily lives, as simple as how we reacted to a certain situation where we can easily solve it in our daily basis, but we find it difficult to solve it. Mental Health is still widely misunderstood and consider as taboo in a certain country, where people who have problems with their Mental Health are being bullied by others or being left out from society.
As a person who studies psychology, I understand from the point of view of people who are struggling in their Mental Health. For us who can easily do a daily basis task like talking to each other or being in the crowd, are hard for them to do it, yet we unconsciously label people who ara having Mental Health problems with morally-loaded terms.
1 in 5 people will experience a Mental Health problems during their lifetime, everyone faces challenges in life that can impact their mental health, even though we looked normal but actually we are fighting a Mental Health problems that we didn’t know. Mental Health problems are a scourge on our society — a hidden epidemic that often happened in our daily life, without we are realized it.
But why Mental Health problems become a hidden epidemic?
Stigma is one of the main reasons why people don’t come forward for mental health treatment. A case where I usually deal as a psychology student is, some people feel ashamed for seeing their therapist or their counsellor just because they are afraid of the stigma that you are not a normal person and you are different from us that they will get from their friends, neighbours, even their own family, but the truth is you need to see your therapist or counsellor because that is the part of the treatment. In fact, it’s actually the same thing as you see your doctor for a medical check-up.
So what’s the solution to maintain our Mental Health?
Let me share you the #Tool2Thrive from Mental Health America.
Own your Feelings
It can be easy to get caught up in your emotions as you’re feeling them. Most people don’t think about what emotions they are dealing with, but taking the time to really identify what you’re feeling can help you to better cope with challenging situations.
Finding The Positive After Loss
At some point in our lives, we will all experience loss. It may be the end of a relationship, being let go from a job, losing a home, or the death of a loved one. It is natural to go through a grieving process. By looking for an opportunity in adversity or finding ways to remember the good things about who or what we’ve lost, we can help ourselves to recover mentally and emotionally.
Eliminating Toxic Influence
Certain people and situations in life can trigger us to feel bad about ourselves or engage in destructive behaviours. Identifying the toxic influences in our lives and taking steps to create boundaries or a new life without them can improve mental and physical health over time.
Creating Healthy Routines
Work, paying bills, cleaning, cooking, shopping, exercising, getting enough sleep, and taking care of children are just some of the things millions of things do each day and it is easy to be overwhelmed. It can feel impossible to get everything done, so let's create a routine where we organize our days in such a way that taking care of tasks and ourselves becomes a pattern that makes it easier to get things done without having to think hard about them.
Supporting Others
While 1 in 5 people will experience a diagnosable mental health condition in their lives, 5 out of 5 people will go through a challenging time that affects their mental health. There are simple things that every person can say or do to help the people in their life who are struggling to get through the tough times.
Connecting With Others
It’s possible to be surrounded by people and still feel alone. It’s the connections we make with other people that help enrich our lives and get us through tough times, but sometimes it’s hard to know how to make those connections.
Mental Health is a great concern in our society, that some people are still not aware of the importance of Mental Health, let’s be more aware of our own Mental Health and give support to those who are struggling with Mental Health problems.
