The Importance of Making a Friend in The Workplace.

Work is work, but do not forget that we are social being that needs human interaction as well.

Humans are undeniably social beings that are should be connected to other humans such as in friendly relations. It was delightful when we could see a friend’s cheerful face, knowing them in good shape, we could hear their friendly voice, we could feel the warmth when we shook their hand firmly. Unconsciously, we would realize that all of these could be good stimulants to lift up our mood in our daily life.

Friendship could be found everywhere and under any circumstances and it could be in many forms. As an office worker, having so many interactions with other office mates could bring higher opportunities to have good friendly relations. Their existence would surround our lives with many colors of their natures and story, whether it was us who were deliberately looking for them or they who would come to us through any work and cooperation we had all these years.

Some introverts felt that co-workers didn’t bring any impact on their work quality as long as they act professionally, and it wouldn’t affect their work performance. It could be justified in some cases. However, having interaction among co-workers doesn’t mean we were always just talking about how to handle the work, it could be many kinds of forms such as talking in a café during break time or when we were on the way back home from work. It would bring significant insights and positive impact for us whether we noticed it or not, even if it’s just a simple expression such as, “hey, the food here is delicious, or this application has a massive bonus”.

Personally, making friends at the workplace was one of my basic needs. Because we spent 8 hours in our time with them during working hours then we spent the rest with our families, then having some rest or sleeping at the end of the day. Building friendship relations with co-workers is like an immune system for mental health and it was one of the main factors to make our work easier, it would bring more enthusiasm, and grow our confidence more because we could rely on them to get moral support.

Working on the ALTO Network that implements the Hybrid Working System may be more challenging in making friends. Fortunately, working at ALTO Network has a lot of internal activities and is a good place to broaden our capacity and make good interaction among co-workers.

At last, all I could say is by socializing with others, makes me feel I am a ‘human’ all the way!
